ASHTANGA
Irini Res has been in the fitness industry for 35 years. She has taught at many different schools, shalas, and gyms and has a wide range of experience in many areas of fitness. Irini practiced Mysore Yoga for many years at Karma Yoga Center and The Ashtanga Yoga Center. Yoga is a way of life for Irini. She has been a Ashtanga yoga instructor for 20 years and in 2009 joined the Ailey Extension Program faculty.

CLASS DESCRIPTION
Ashtanga Yoga is the system of Yoga originally taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore, India. The practice involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of poses – a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse purifying perspiration that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.

"Tell us about your journey with the practice of yoga.​
Being a dancer and very athletic all my life, I was quite flexible. I enjoyed yoga but didn’t feel truly challenged until I discovered Ashtanga yoga, the power yoga! I found, as I did the practice, that I was healing injuries I’d had since childhood. Also, each round of practice brought me greater physical strength and flexibility combined with a calmness and clarity of mind. The results were so beneficial to me that I wanted to share this experience with others."
